Time
to fill the pottery bowls on the deck
with water.
Blue jays push to the front
and drink.
Purple finches sip
as if champagne,
then flitter around the yard
like Disney birds in Cinderella
among the trees and empty branches,
chasing each other
be mine, be mine.
